Consciousness is a phenomenon that we can barely grasp. I often wonder why we are here on this earth, in this universe. The question itself is a nonsensical one, yet most humans are faced with wondering about the answer nonetheless. How are we supposed to live our lives? For years I've been living with strong cognitive dissonance; I was seeing and doing the very things that go against what I stand for and what attitudes I hold. Environmentalism, humanitarianism, minimalism... all of these things I claimed to be an advocate for-- posting all over social media regarding the causes, for example --yet how far was I willing to go to truly put it into action? A handful of people and events have opened my eyes to see that changing the world for the better starts within ourselves! A dear friend has been reminding me time and time again that the best thing we can do to help others is to first heal ourselves, and I have a feeling that it will take the rest of my life to accomplish it. It starts with mindfulness. No more immersing myself in this eternal consumption engine unless it is to change the course of society. Now, I am determined to change myself and the course for the better. Although "better" is a subjective term, I know that by learning about people from all walks of life, I can find the most peaceful path for myself and inspire others.
